BMI (body mass index) is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared — a quick way to gauge body weight. This calculator uses Asia-Pacific cut-offs and also shows the healthy weight range for your height.
BMI categories
Underweight below 18.5, normal 18.5–22.9, pre-obese 23–24.9, obese I 25–29.9, obese II 30–34.9, obese III 35+. Asian cut-offs are lower than WHO’s global ones (overweight at 25) because body fat tends to be higher at the same BMI.
Limits of BMI
Muscular people can score high, and people with little muscle can score “normal” with high body fat. Waist circumference is a useful second check.
FAQ
- What is the BMI formula?
- BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For 170cm and 65kg: 65 ÷ 1.7² ≈ 22.5.
- Why is 23 already “pre-obese”?
- Asia-Pacific criteria set lower thresholds than the WHO global standard.
- Can children use it?
- Under 19, age- and sex-specific percentiles should be used instead.
- Is my data saved?
- No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
