Click each mouse button inside the test area. Every button keeps its own counter, and scroll ups and downs are tallied separately. If the same button fires twice less than 80 ms apart, that is faster than a human finger, so we flag it as a likely double-click fault.
What causes double-clicking?
As the tiny switch inside a mouse wears out, its contacts start to bounce and send two signals for one press. The classic symptoms are files opening when you meant to select them and drag-and-drop letting go halfway.
How to test properly
Click the left button slowly and deliberately 20 to 30 times. If no warning appears, you are fine. One or two warnings could be early wear, so keep testing; frequent warnings mean it is time for a new switch, a warranty claim or a new mouse.
Wheel and side buttons
If scrolling one notch down sometimes counts as up, the wheel encoder may be going bad. The back and forward side buttons are blocked from navigating away while you are inside the test area, so press away.
